Exploring the lesser known parts of Peterhead

Back to All Blog Posts

When the Peterhead Trail was first created back in 2015, the idea was to showcase Peterhead's rich heritage and wonderful stories for both the local community and visitors to the town. The trail route takes in the town centre and coastal parts of the town but we also take you in land on a historic journey around parts of the town that are slightly off the beaten track but equally as interesting.

Looking at the trail map, locations 13 - 18 will give you a tour of some key sites in the town including Ugie Hospital, Buchanhaven Heritage Centre, Landale Road Gardens and Prince Street.

At Ugie Hospital uncover the story of how the Bubonic Plague arrived in Peterhead and just along the road at Buchanhaven Heritage Centre find out about the history of Buchanhaven in what was the old Buchanhaven school building.

Back towards the town centre at Landale Road, find out more and see the gardens which were laid out some time after the street was developed and were a popular place for recreation from the 1920’s. Finally, on Prince Street, discover more about Peterhead's first Tolbooth and the town jail.

We hope you enjoy exploring the trail and Peterhead as much as the team who put together the trail enjoyed researching and creating it.

Until next time...
