Peterhead Trail Extension

Back to All Blog Posts

It has been over five years since the Peterhead Trail was created and as part of the regeneration programme for Peterhead, it was decided to further enhance the trail which is what the trail’s steering group have been doing since December 2019.

In December the group met for the first time to review the existing trail and decide on what we would like to do to build on the trail. There was an open invitation to the public and anyone with an interest in the trail to join the discussion and feed in. The trail is about Peterhead and most importantly it belongs to the people past, present and future.

The group agreed to create a new link between the prison museum and town centre to attract prison museum visitors into the town. There are 4 new trail panels for this extension outside Peterhead Prison Museum, The Reform Tower at Meethill, Scottish Maritime Academy and old St. Peter’s Churchyard.

Peterhead Football Club approached the steering group with the idea to erect a panel at Morrison’s supermarket, the site of the original Peterhead Football Club ground. The group were only too glad to support this so a 5th panel is being installed by Morrison’s telling the story of the history of the club.

To support all of this and to promote the trail, we have created a new website, social media channels, trail map and leaflet and we even invited north east based Kim Grant, Social Media Influencer to come and do a vlog about the trail which you can view here.

All the best until the next blog…
